Hello everyone out there in autographland! I hope you all had a great Halloween and didn’t eat too much candy! I was very good this year!
Today I would like to cover places to go where you are most likely to meet sports celebrities whose signature might want to obtain for your collection.
I have found that far and away the best site for obtaining various players of all sports are the hotels that teams tend to say at. This is true for Major League Baseball, NFL, NHL, NBA and college athletics. Players are hassled less by other autograph seekers, aren’t working out and generally have more time for their fans.
Some hotels will allow you to remain in the lobby as long as you don’t create a disturbance although some will require that you collect autographs outside. I have had some of my greatest successes at team hotels. A few of the great names I have gotten include Wayne Gretzky, Brett Hull, Bobby Hull, Bobby Orr. Patrick Roy, Peyton Manning, Brett Farve, Bill Parcells, Mike Ditka, Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, Hank Aaron, Barry Bonds, Randy Johnson, Albert Pujols, Josh Hamilton, Kobe Bryant, Paul Pierce, Shaq, Dwight Howard and Steve Nash. This is a very small sampling but it gives you the idea.
Another great place to get signatures are team pre-season training location such as Spring Training both in Arizona and Florida, NFL OTA’s or Training Camp locations.
Stadiums and ballparks can be fantastic places to meet current sports figures as well as players who are members of the coaching staffs or are retired just taking in the game. I have had the greatest success at Stadiums waiting for players to come out after the game. If you want to know what gate players come out just ask any uniformed ballpark personnel and they will almost always let you know.
Today’s celebrity is former Boston Red Sox Great and Baseball Hall of Fame member Bobby Doerr:
